Our Values and Commitments

Co-operative Principle

Membership is the most distinctive feature of the credit union system. It is what differentiates us from other financial institutions. It involves sharing, and being part of a community whether geographic, ethnic, or work-related.

We abide by and practice the Co-operative Principles and Philosophy in all our relationships. We conduct business with our members, each other, other credit unions, our community and the organizations with whom we associate on a mutually beneficial basis.

Integrity

We adhere to the strictest ethical standards. We maintain open, honest communication and the highest level of financial integrity and accountability.

Respect and Trust

We respect all people equally, both as individuals and collectively. We further respect the spirit and intent of all applicable laws. We will ensure an openness, fairness and trust among all our people, at all times and under all circumstances.

Leadership and Teamwork

We are committed to a sound and progressive leadership within North Peace Savings   Credit Union and the Credit Union system. We work together always in a spirit of mutual understanding, support, participation, teamwork and harmony.

Excellence

We are professionals working together to achieve the highest standards of excellence in service to members and everything else that we do.

Social Responsibility

We have a sincere and dedicated commitment toward the betterment and development of our community. We participate in and support meaningful community activities.

Our Values:

  • Social Responsibility

What is Social Responsibility?

  • It is not Marketing
  • It is not Sponsorship

Social Responsibility is:

  • Long term support for major projects
  • Ongoing funding for community organizations
  • Making a difference

Social Responsibility is targeted support designed to meet the needs of our members and community. In 2003 the board committed to a funding formula for Social Responsibility projects. Our annual Social Responsibility allotment is based on a percentage of our earnings from operations, as follows:

  • 66% is kept as retained earnings
  • 25% is allocated to patronage rebates to members
  • 4% is allotted to social responsibility
  • 5% is allotted to discretionary projects

Please contact the Fort St John branch for information regarding social responsibility support.

Casual for Charity

North Peace Savings and Credit Union has a sincere and dedicated commitment to the betterment and development of our community. This commitment is embraced by our staff and demonstrated by their actions. On the last Friday of each month, our staff pledge $5 to wear casual clothes. This money is matched dollar for dollar by the Credit Union and donated to local community service groups.

Donations/Sponsorships

North Peace Savings and Credit Union is committed to Community and to encouraging and supporting our people in their community endeavors. Our members make the Credit Union choice with the expectation that the Credit Union will in turn make the Community choice on their behalf and with their needs and desires in mind. North Peace Savings and Credit Union strives to "meet the needs of people" by:

  • investing in community projects
  • sponsoring various community activities and events
  • participating in education programs aimed at fostering a better understanding of financial matters
  • promoting community economic development.

Credit Union Deposit Insurance

The Credit Union Deposit Insurance Corporation (CUDIC), a government corporation, was established in 1958 to protect credit union members against the loss of deposits held by British Columbia credit unions. CUDIC's responsibility is to administer and operate a deposit insurance fund. The Financial Institutions Commission (FICOM), an agency of the Government of British Columbia, is responsible for administering CUDIC and for administering the regulation of financial institutions operating in the province. As of October 2008, Credit Unions in BC all have unlimited deposit insurance coverage on deposit accounts. More Information is available at:
